This BMW X1 came to use for a new car detail in March, thanks to the owner for traveling all the way from Cork city.
Shane was delighted with the outcome!
The SUV came to use with about 000,170 KM’s so was good as new. As usual it needed some deep cleaning before treatments could be carried out.
A pH neutral fallout remover and citrus degreaser were applied to the wheels, tyres, wheel arches and paintwork.
We removed the number plates and brackets next so that full covarage of the vehicle is possible in the later stages of the detail. They were washed seperatly
Next the exterior was rinsed using our Nilfisk 150 PSI pressure washer….
… and a soft two bucket hand wash.
While this SUV was new and just washed the paint was still very ‘dirty’, to the untrained eye it was super clean but to the touch it was not glass smooth which means their is contamination on/in the surface of the paint. This is after clay barring ….
… and after applying a pH neutral fallout remover. These purple dots are metal particals embedded in the paint and we all know metal rusts which is why their is sometimes orange dots in light coloured paints.
After towel drying the exterior we started to machine polish the glass and paint.
A new favorite combo, flexipads 150mm black polishing recessed pad with zero swirl polish.
With the paint and glass looking great we used 99% alcohol to guarantee a surgically clean surface ready to accept Gtechniq coatings.
First Gtechniq crystal serum was applied (not pictured) then EXO V3.
The side and rear glass recieved Gtechniq G1/2 and G5 for the windshield.
The exhaust was hand polished and Gtechniq C5 was applied.
The wheels were carefully removed and cleaned. A bodywork solvent helped remove tar deposits and alcohol to cleanze the surface for Gtechniq C5 wheel armour. Not forgetting to align the badges of course.
After checking for the correct wheel bolt tightness in the owners manual we set our torque ratchet to 140 NM, the correct tightness as specified by BMW, not loose and not so tight the wheel can’t be changed on the side of the road if needed.
After 24 hours the ceramic coatings were cured and this BMW got its badge of honour.
Thanks for looking!
